Painted in watercolor on paper, this blue jay is taking advantage of nature's offerings. One a bright yellow in the summer sun, these sunflowers now provide a fall harvest. Using a complimentary color scheme of blue/orange calls attention to the jay offers a lively look to essentially dead sunflowers. He is working hard plucking those seeds out of each "pocket"! Born in Missouri and living throughout the US, Mary McCullah has worked closely with zoos and nature preserves giving conservation related programs and doing hands-on work with animals including gray wolves and birds of prey. These experiences have provided valuable inspiration for her art work. The award winning artist paints primarily in acrylic and watercolor concentrating mostly on nature and wildlife as subject matter. Mary is attracted by the fluid movement of watercolor and the versatility of acrylic. She works from her own reference photographs, often combining several photos.
